I am happy to be on the panel for this APA & ASMP event so if you want to see me battle my fear of public speaking, sign up and come learn some stuff this Saturday!!
For those of you who know me and most of those who have worked for me, you know that I am passionate about the business of photography. It has been, and still is, a huge learning experience for me each and every day and I try to pass that along as much as I can. I have been thinking a lot about what I have learned and advice I might have. I have come up a lot of stuff and I have also been encouraged to continue my "Lessons of the Day" topic on this blog. So.... Lesson of today: START A GOOD FILING SYSTEM!!!
Quick story: I was in Florida after new years thinking it would be a slow week and a great time to get out of town. Of course, book a vacation and the phone rings. Lesson should be book more vacations but really it is have a great filing system and a portable image library. My clients called with a request for old, random, funny images needed ASAP. Since I rarely leave home without my laptop and since I am obsessed with Lightroom and have almost all of my images filed and organized in lightroom since 2005, I was able to make a fast pull and web gallery to show my clients without actually having the files with me. Simple and I did not have to panic or have someone at my studio rummage through my computers or files.
Technical notes: I use Lightroom 3 with a similar filing system from Seth Resnick and D65. I have been to a few of their seminars and now do some webinars when they have topics and times that are good for me. Leaning is never over!
More advice and lesson to come but hope to see you Saturday.
